Jason Isbell is the third artist in this year's top ten—Ryan Adams and Tame Impala are the others—to score their second top ten this decade. The fourth such act to hold this distinction is Isbell's former band, the Drive-By Truckers, but they did it in the decade's first two years and had their run of five consecutive top ten albums end last year.
It's safe to say Isbell has overtaken his former band, in popularity for sure, and now in my eyes as well. So, I'm raising a toast to him in the form of a Brewmaster Jack The Little Brother.
Mr. Isbell has consumed our family's musical lives over the past year. In addition to seeing him three times, his songs are played and sung by us on guitar, piano, etc around the house, around campfires, etc.
We have tickets to both shows at the Beacon in February. This record was such a remarkable follow on to "Southeastern" which I wouldn't hesitate to call a masterpiece.
Great job, once again, on creating a fun year end list!
"Since baseball time is measured only in outs, all you have to do is succeed utterly; keep hitting, keep the rally alive, and you have defeated time. You remain forever young." - Roger Angell
